The Michigan Laborers are active in local, state, and federal politics. We engage through organizing as Members, educating elected officials about our priorities, and donating directly to candidates and causes through the Laborers Political League Political Action Committee (LPL PAC).

As a Union, we are willing to work with and support any elected official or candidate for office that respects the hard work that Michigan Laborers do everyday. Through our political work, we have had many long lasting beneficial friendships with elected officials that have resulted in better policy for our State and Union.

Learn more about our positions on policies below and please sign up to receive updates from LiUNA so we can share occasional important news on political issues that affect our Union.

If you are a candidate for office who would like to seek our endorsement, please complete our questionnaire and return it to JByrd@Mi-Laborers.org or mail it to 1118 Centennial Way Ste 100 Lansing, MI 48917. Local State Questionnaire. Local Office Questionnaire.

Fix Our Roads & Bridges

Michigan’s roads and bridges are the worst in the nation. This creates safety, economic, and quality of life issues for everyone. We want to see our roads and bridges fixed for once and for all.

Energy Infrastructure

LiUNA supports an all of the above approach to meeting our State and Nation’s energy needs. Our Members can be found on nearly every energy project in the State.

Hire Local

Local Michigan workers should have the first shot at local jobs. Our Union strongly supports policies that promote hiring people from the local workforce.

Clean Water

Everyone deserves to have clean drinking water and our government needs to invest enough to guarantee it. Michigan needs to rehaul it’s drinking water infrastructure before it is too late.

Davis Bacon & Prevailing Wage

Michigan workers take pride in their work and should be paid Michigan wages. Taxpayer funded construction projects must have wage floors that prevent out-of-state contractors from busing in low wage workers that disrupt local wages.

Retirement Security

Our Union is very proud of our self managed and funded pension retirement plan. Our Members are guaranteed a respectable and prosperous retirement because of it. We vehemently oppose any legislation that seeks to hurt our pension fund or penalizes our retired Members.
